1. Estimates, Not Invoices

The calculations performed on this website represent mathematical models based on simplified assumptions. Under commercial production conditions, actual billing is influenced by numerous factors that cannot be completely predicted in a lightweight calculator:

  • Tokenizer Variations: Tokenizers split subwords probabilistically. Specialized code syntax, JSON wrappers, markdown formatting, and non-English scripts often expand token volume beyond standard rules of thumb.
  • Hidden Reasoning Tokens: Reasoning models (such as OpenAI o1 and o3-mini) generate internal "thinking" tokens that are not visible in completion texts but are billed as standard output tokens.
  • Cache Invalidation & TTLs: Prompt caching requires exact prefix matching and expires after inactivity windows (e.g. 5 minutes on Anthropic). Missed cache hits revert to full input pricing.
  • Context Length Tiers: Certain providers double input and output token rates when prompts exceed high thresholds (e.g. prompts longer than 128,000 tokens on Gemini 1.5 Pro).
  • Taxes & Regulatory Surcharges: Published rates exclude state sales taxes, European VAT, digital service taxes, and payment gateway processing fees.
  • Contractual Terms: Organizations with high monthly spends frequently negotiate custom volume discounts, committed throughput reservations, or enterprise support tiers.

2. Midjourney Subscription Economics

Midjourney does not publish or sell an official per-image REST API. It sells recurring monthly subscription tiers (such as the Standard Plan at $30/month) based on dedicated Fast GPU hours. Any per-image figure presented on our site is a derived mathematical estimate based on average generation durations, not an official vendor list price. Similarly, where a voice or transcription figure is labelled as a derived estimate (for example, an ElevenLabs figure calculated from published plan pricing), it is a mathematical estimate, not an official vendor list price.
